Ben Ephson dares Bawumia on NPP top post contest

Pollster Ben Ephson has thrown a challenge to the 2012 Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to set the records straight on his political ambition within the opposition NPP.

He dared Dr. Bawumia to declare whether he will or will not contest the flagbearership position of the NPP.

He, however, averred that he (Dr. Bawumia) is definitely bracing himself to lead the party come 2016, and believed it is an obvious fact that Dr. Bawumia would be the potential candidate in the stead of Nana Akufo -Addo, the 2012 presidential candidate of the party.

“If Dr. Bawumia is bold enough, he should say on record that if Nana Addo decides not to contest, even he (Dr. Bawumia) will not contest…If he then comes out to say that if Nana Addo decides not to contest, he (Dr. Bawumia) will not contest, then we will say that the poster totally is a hoax. Until he says that, this is foot in the door,” he blurted out.

Also touching on posters of Dr. Bawumia in circulation at certain areas of the Psychiatric Hospital in Accra, Ben Ephson, speaking in an interview with Radio Gold, was of the strong view that the posters are not a misrepresentation of the rationale adopted by the people circulating it.

To him, they cannot be considered a hoax until proven otherwise.

Some posters have been sighted around the Psychiatric hospital in Accra, displaying Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s preferred choice for the 2016 presidential slot.

The posters bore his portrait together with the NPP’s logo at the top left corner and the inscription “sponsored by friends of Dr. Bawumia” beneath it.

But Anthony Karbo, a former National Youth Organiser of the NPP, who claims to be the mouthpiece of the NPP’s 2012 vice-presidential candidate, says Dr Bawumia is not nursing any interest to be the NPP’s flagbearer.

Commenting on the phenomenon, Ben Ephson believed the faces behind the posters are rather launching deep into the futuristic political ambition of Dr. Bawumia. He discounted claims by Anthony Karbo that his boss does not have his eyes set on the NPP’s flagbearership position.

“It’s possible that those who are doing it are thinking ahead of Anthony Karbo. You need to bear in mind; the same thing happened with Nana Konadu before the FONKAR games started…It’s going to be difficult for him to defend,” he stated.
