Bernard Ahiafor elected as 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Akatsi South, Bernard Ahiafor has been elected as the 1st Deputy Speaker of the 9th Parliament.

Ahiafor has been a member of the Sixth, Seventh, Eighth and newly sworn in Ninth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.

He first contested the Akatsi South constituency parliamentary seat during the 2012 by-election, when the member parliament for the constituency Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho become the Speaker of parliament for Sixth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.

He was elected with 12, 079 votes of the total votes. Ahiafor later won the main 2012 Parliamentary election.

The lawyer turned politician won subsequent elections in 2016, 2020, and 2024.

He served as the Ranking Member of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs of Parliament in the 8th Parliament.
