Ve-Golokwati (V/R), Oct 10 GNA-Mr. Joseph Z. Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister at the weekend said the Atta-Mills led government's development slogan "Better Ghana" agenda was no fluke. He said pointers are visible and positive for the actualization of the agenda.
Mr. Amenowode, also the Member of Parliament for Hohoe South, was addressing a durbar of the Chiefs and people of Ve Traditional Area in the Hohoe Municipality during their Ve Lukusi Dodoleglimeza (Sojourning Festival).
The week-long festival was organised by Ve Lukusi Improvement Society (VELIS) on the theme: "Education: Key to Youth Empowerment for Accelerated Rural Development."
He reassured that all aspirations embedded in the National Democratic Congress' manifesto as well as campaign promises, which has been reduced to a "matter of time would see light of the day." The Minister said 80,000 sewn school uniforms would soon be distributed to primary pupils and students of Junior High Schools in the region.
Mr. Amenowode announced that contract process for the construction and rehabilitation of 100 dilapidated school blocks and Classrooms blocks to replace under- trees schools has began with a target of 350 school buildings within the next five-years The Regional Minister said tenders for the construction of classrooms, dormitories and dining halls for Senior High Schools (SHS) in the region have been advertised in the media. Mr. Amenowode said Ve SHS would benefit from the construction of semi-detached teachers' bungalows and hostels for boy's and girl's. Mr. Victor-Hermann Condobrey, Hohoe Municipal Assembly, said the Municipality's development agenda fits into that of the better Ghana agenda and commended the traditional area for keeping the peace. He said plans are afoot to construct the road between Ve-Deme and Leklebi Fiafe among others. Mr. James Klu, Deputy Director, Ghana Highway Authority, said efforts are being fast tracked to improve on the state of the road networks in the region and beyond including the eastern corridor roads beginning from Tema through Hohoe to Kulungugu spanning over 700 kilometers.
He appealed to Chiefs whose traditional areas would benefit from the project to exercise supervisory authority on the project when works commence.
Dr. Feller Adoboe, President of VELIS, appealed to the Ministry of Tourism and the Ghana Tourist Board to place the repackaged annual festival onto the country's tourism map. He urged parents to invest in the education of their children as the safest guaranteed security for the future entreating pupils and students to grasp all opportunities available in the community and state.
Togbuiga Delume VII, Fiaga of Ve, said the occasion was symbolic as it demonstrates the re-enactment of the migration of the Ve stock from the claws of the tyranny of King Agorkoli of Notsie, in present day Republic of Togo. He appealed to government to establish a technical vocational school in the area. Togbuiga Delume commended the Hohoe Municipal and VELIS for their continuous unalloyed development support to the community. Mr. Amenowode later presented 10 Dell Computers and accessories to the Ve SHS to facilitate information and Communication Technology (ICT) teaching and learning in the school. 10. Oct. 10
