Story by: Samuel Ablordeppey
The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC)
Joseph Ade Coker has said that sss the infrastructural development ongoing across
the country is a clear indication of the realization of the promise the NDC made to
Ghanaians in the run up to the 2012 elections.
He said, fall outs from the president’s tour of the country to inspect and
inaugurate and also sod-cutting for commencement of work was an eye opener and an
opportunity to witness the level of developmental projects initiated two –and- half
years into the President Mills led government, ‘’it’s just amazing.’’ He said.
‘’Thank the good lord that he gave us Prez Mills, in two-and- a half years what I
have seen for the past days nobody needs to tell me that we need four more years to
complete what government has started, you can imagine we can do in eight years given
the opportunity; it means that the Better Ghana agenda is on course’’. Ade Coker
said.
He argued that government’s decision to invest in infrastructural development was a
manifesto promise which the government was pursuing.
The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC said, the ongoing road construction
and rehabilitation, construction of dormitories, 18 and 12 Unit classroom blocks,
clinics, hospitals and boreholes including; markets, sea defense project, harnessing
the Songhor salt Development Project and project made in the redevelopment of the
Adjen Kotoko Township among the many more projects was all geared towards improving
the lives of the people.
When asked about the contrasting view of opposition elements on the general
performance of the government, Mr. Ade Coker said ‘’like the monkey if you can’t see
the Monkey only sees only what he wants to see. You have been around with us and you
have to go and tell the story, I don’t have to tell you have seen what is happening
and anybody who says he does not see what is happening does not have Ghana at heart
and this is the country we are developing’’.
On the issue of the Doctors strike Mr. Coker explained that it was unfortunate for
the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) to go on strike due to the substantial amount of
benefits they receive and the investment government pumps into their training.
‘’Now is the time the Doctors must give to society what they owe society and be
guided by the Hippocratic oath and consider getting back to business’’ He said.
He further indicated to RADIO GOLD that government had not failed to graduate them
onto the single spine salary structure (SSSS) but working out modalities which will
effectively address the anomalies realized in the implementation of the SSSS.
He said there is the need to tackle the socio economic needs of the people
especially the deprived. We cannot give the money for the development of the country
to any one group of people.
He urged the string Doctors to heed to the President’s plea for them to go back to
work as negotiation continues.
On whether the current political situation will have any adverse effect on the
fortunes of Professor Mills in the upcoming 2012 elections, the Greater Accra Chair
of the NDC maintained that the flagbearer of the Opposition New Patriotic Party
(NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo does not have the qualities to be a President of
Ghana.
He said Ghanaians are a discerning people and if in two and a half years the
President Mills led government has initiated these projects then you could imagine
what we would be doing in 8 years.
‘’When the NPP were in power, in 2004 they asked Ghanaians for four more years thus
if that was good for them then let me announce to the NPP that what is good for the
Goose is also Good for the Gander’’ Ade Coker said.
