Betty Mould Iddrisu Awarded

The Young Politicians Of Ghana, a non partisan student group, have awarded Hon Mrs. Betty Mould Iddrisu, former Minister of Education and Hon Frema Opare the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon with awards & citations in the ‘Honoree Of Female Empowerment’ Category and ‘Honoree Of Female Representative’ Category respectively, for their individual contributions to youth and female political activism in the country. Other awardees in a wide range of categories of leadership in student affairs included student leaders across the country.

The “Young Politicians of Ghana” comprising of past and current student leaders of the nations tertiary institutions organized the awards and dinner night ceremony which was held at the University Of Ghana on Thursday 3rd May 2012. The well organized & well attended Ceremony was graced by student leaders & dignitaries including Dr. Clement Apak, Manager, Radio Universe and the Chairman for the Forum for Governance and Justice, Mr. Emmanuel Kyerematen Agyarko the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency and other leading members of both the NDC, NPP & other political parties.

The President of the “Young Politicans”, Emmanuel Addo said the group objectively considered awide range of factors in arriving at the selection of the two personalities for the awards. He espoused the trail blazing role both women had played in Ghana and lauded the leadership roles of both women and noted especially the pioneering international leadership role of Mrs. Betty Mould Iddrisu in the empowerment of women across the African continent. He urged all student leaders to take inspiration from both women.

In his speech, Dr. Apaak, spoke extensively of the need to avoid the politics of insults & hate speech in our body politic and lauded the Young Politicans of Ghana for their vision in awarding female politicians who were generational in their relationship with the youth. The chair for the occasion, Mr. Solomon Lartey, Chief Operations Manager of Activa Insurance Company also praised the students for their role in promoting peace in Ghanaian politics and exhorted other groupings to follow this exemplary example of leadership.

Hon, Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu recounted the various leadership roles she played in the empowerment of women & youth leaders across the country over the years. She urged the group to be focused, determined and that in all “the sky shall be their limit”. Hon Frema also recounted the support she had received over the years from her core constituent group at the University of Ghana and thanked them for their support.
