The Ghana Police Service's announcement that it will investigate the damage to the statue of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital Roundabout has provoked strong criticisms and outrage from Ghanaian netizens.
Many critics have condemned the police’s decision, calling them unnecessary and a misplaced priority. They argue that the police have yet to update the public or apprehend those responsible for the loss of lives during the recent elections in certain areas of the country.
Critics also pointed out that the police have yet to resolve important cases, such as the Adabraka robbery that occurred weeks ago, as well as a recent robbery in Lapaz, but are now dedicating time to investigate the vandalism of the statue.
This has caused the Ghana Police Service to trend on X for Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
According to an earlier statement released by the police on December 16, 2024, the police gave details of the damage to the president’s statue.
It said that the plaque on the statue had been removed, adding that its left leg was also broken.
The police assured that the person(s) responsible for the damage would be found and dealt with in accordance with the country's laws.
“The Ghana Police Service has commenced an investigation into the damage caused to the statue of His Excellency, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, located at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital Roundabout at Sekondi, Western Region.
“Preliminary investigations by the police have revealed that the statue's left leg has been damaged, and its plaque removed. Police efforts are underway to get the perpetrators arrested to face justice,” the statement by the police reads.
Here are some of the tweets under the trending topic:
Tell us you’re joking cos we’ve got bigger issues to deal with like Salifu Amoako’s kid, the Adabraka money heist, Lapaz Forex Bureau robbing and the electoral casualties. A good leader would be respected by his people; you don’t force them to.

Two lives were lost in the just ended election in Ghana, and Ghana police has put that investigation on the fringes but rather interested in investigating the damage of Akuffo Addo statue, why don't Ghana police investigate both, but choose to prioritize the latter

With all the cases in front of Ghana police, is it an investigation of the statute you're concerned with??
Now that these Sekondi people have started removing parts of H.E. Nana Addo's statue, Ghana Police should do fast fast, otherwise by January 7th, the statue will have no nose and eyes. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
