Bibiani (W/R), April 27, GNA - Six teachers and two non-teaching staff who distinguished themselves in the performance of their duties in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District in 2004 have been honoured at Bibiani in the Western Region.
The ceremony was aimed at acknowledging and rewarding the most hardworking teachers and workers of the Ghana Education Service (GES). The award winners received prizes ranging from gas cookers, cylinders, bicycles, electric irons, suitcases and colour T.V. sets.
Miss Benedicta Naana Biney, Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Acting District Director of Education said the scheme aimed at rewarding dedication, patriotism, commitment and resourcefulness.
She expressed regret that while some teachers were trying hard and making bold efforts to impact positively on both teaching and learning, there were still others who did not bother and flouted rules and regulations with impunity.
Miss Biney assured all teachers that the GES appreciated excellence and was determined to continue to show recognition and acknowledgement of dedicated and hardworking teachers.
The best teacher award in the primary schools category went to Mr Emmanuel Nkrumah of the Asawinso Methodist Primary, while Mr Thomas Nsiah of the Anhwiaso District Council (D/C) JSS emerged the best teacher in the JSS category. Both of them took home a gas cooker and cylinder each as their prizes.
