Bible Society starts distribution of Jubilee Bibles to schools

Kumasi, May 28, GNA - The Bible Society of Ghana One Million Bible project for junior secondary schools in the Ashanti Region, was launched on Sunday with the distribution of 8,000 "Good News Bible", Golden Jubilee edition, to pupils drawn from eight schools in the Kumasi metropolis.

The distribution, which will be done in phases for a period of three years, will cover an estimated population of 50,000 pupils in public schools at a total cost of 50 billion cedis. Reverend Kofi Owusu, the General Secretary of the Bible Society of Ghana, said the presentation of the Bibles was to help inculcate the habit of reading the Bible in the children to help curb indiscipline in the society.

He said this was what the Society could offer the nation as it celebrated its 50th anniversary so that through reading and learning of the Bible they would come to know God and refrain from evil acts. Rev Owusu told the students that the Bible was expensive and once they have got it for free, they must try to read it for God's direction in their lives so that they would be able to lead good lives worthy of emulation.

Mr Anthony Osei Assibey, National Director of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal and chairman of the Northern Sector Committee of the Bible Society of Ghana, said the distribution would start from Kumasi and extended to the districts.
