Big Boost to GhanAir's Attempt to Clear Passenger Backlog

One more plane released to airline

The special evacuation exercise by Ghana Airways to clear the huge excess of passengers on its London route has been boosted with the release of one more aircraft from a private company in Europe.

The exercise is therefore expected to be completed by the end of this week.

This follows a successful arrangement by the Airline with Tri Star, an air travel company in Europe for the release of another 300-seater aircraft to accelerate the exercise.

The Ghana Airways Country Manager for Europe, Mr. Roger Allotey disclosed this in an interview in London.

The Airline is currently faced with passenger crisis on its London and USA routes. Thousands of passengers are left stranded in London, Washington DC and Accra in Ghana, following lack of aircraft to fly them to their respective destinations.

Currently, the Airline is 'blessed' with a 767 Boeing aircraft leased from the Zimbabwe Airlines.

He said the exercise had been further boosted with another delivery of an aircraft from Chapman Free Borne.

He said arrangements were far advanced for the release of yet another aircraft from the company early this week to boost the 'leased fleet' of aircraft and expressed the optimism that this would help accelerate flying the stranded passengers, majority of whom were public and civil servants as well as businessmen who were losing a lot in terms of business and money.

Mr. Allotey disclosed that the arrangement with the Zimbabwe Airline would cover a period of two weeks to augment the exercise.

He noted that there were two more offers but did not give details, adding that: 'We are trying everything within our reach to get every single passenger to his or her destination because we are not happy with the situation we find our valuable customers in.'
