The founder and head prophet of the New Jerusalem Chapel at Skoban-Ampeyoo, near Kumasi, Bishop John Yaw Adu, has admonished the suspended General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kwabena A. Agyepong, to accept the decision of the National Executive Committee of the party.

He said it was proper for Mr. Agyepong to have shown remorse and apologized to the National Disciplinary Committee of the party when he appeared before them in response to a petition brought against him by some concerned members of the NPP.

Speaking in an interview, Bishop Adu said the attitude of the suspended General Secretary when he appeared before the disciplinary body indicate that he (Agyepong) has respect for the structures of the party and the mechanisms put in place for addressing issues.

“The behavior of Mr. Agyepong towards the elders of the party has so far shown that he is respectful of party disciplinary procedures and mechanisms for addressing disputes and conflicts,” he said.

He went on to add that “if he is interested in the welfare of the party, then I advise him to continue the path he has chosen and further demonstrate his love for the NPP by working to earn the confidence the delegates and the leaders of the party once had in him”.

The man-of-God also advised Mr. Agyepong to learn from the National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kofi Adams, who was once suspended as the Deputy General Secretary, but has now risen to his current position and he has the respect and admiration of the members of his party.

“After his suspension Kofi Adams did not abandon the NDC, but he rather demonstrated the love he has for his party and today he is one of the most liked and admired personalities in the NDC,” Bishop Adu said

The revered man-of-God appealed to Mr. Agyepong not to pay heed to calls for him by some politicians within the NPP and NDC to go to court to challenge the decision of the National Executive Committee since any move in that direction will be counterproductive.

“Going to court will not be in the best interest and it will also be futile as the internal mechanisms were duly followed”.

He appealed to all the political parties to use laid down procedures in addressing internal issues, since anything untoward that happens in the parties has the potential to spill over into the larger Ghanaian society.
