‘Bitter’ Martin Amidu to witch-hunt NDC members – Kofi Adams

President Akufo-Addo has appointed Martin Amidu as the Special Prosecutor President Akufo-Addo has appointed Martin Amidu as the Special Prosecutor

National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kofi Adams says the newly appointed Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, is not independent and will only witch-hunt members of the opposition party.

He said Mr Amidu’s posture since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took up the reins of government vis-à-vis his pronouncements during the John Mahama regime makes it clear he is “a bitter person”.

Speaking on TV3’s News 360 on Thursday a few hours after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo nominated the NDC cadre as the Special Prosecutor – pending approval by Parliament – Mr Adams said the nominee is simply “anti-NDC”.

But Mr Amidu has been a known member of the NDC, having stood the 2000 elections as the running mate of the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills.

The late president even appointed him Attorney General and a Minister of Justice, though he was later relieved of that position following a standoff with government.

But Mr Adams says Mr Amidu does not consider himself a member of the NDC as he himself related when he was invited by the party’s disciplinary committee over some disparaging comments attributed to him.

“He refused to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee,” the former NDC Deputy General told host Paa Kwesi Asare.

He dared the host to mention a single comment made by Mr Amidu against the NPP government since January 7, 2017, when it assumed the reins of the country.

“We have made it very clear that he is not independent, he is a bitter person and he is there to witch-hunt NDC members.”
