Blakofe calls for demo against Ghana@50 visitors

Why build mansions for them,
When kids are dying at Korle bu…
TV presenter Ekua Marfo, known by viewers as Blakofe has thrown a challenge to all Ghanaian women to come together and demonstrate against all visiting heads of state to Ghana’s 50th anniversary celebration.

Apparently incensed by government’s spending of millions of dollars to construct executive mansions for the visiting heads, Blakofe told our sister publication JIVE Entertainment that “I'm putting out a call to all Ghanaian women to go to the airport and demonstrate against the presence of all those heads of state coming for the independence bash. I think it's so disgusting; it's like the government doesn't care about the people.”

According to her, government is displaying great insensitivity to the plight of the people because the country lacks everything from reliable healthcare facilities to schools, and has no reason to spend billions of Cedis on parties and mansions.

“They are rather spending millions of dollars on partying and accommodation for heads of state, when people are dying because of poor health care. All the times I've had kids, I've had to go to the UK to deliver because I don't want to risk Korle-Bu” she fumed.

The mother of two and Chief Executive of KofeBean Entertainment is a presenter on Mnet’s Studio 53 and has also presented a number of programs on local TV channels. She told JIVE that “there aren't enough schools and hospitals, we don't have running water and we are having energy problems and all the government thinks about it celebrating independence.”

Touching on the celebration itself, Blakofe said “first of all, we are not independent as a country. Let's call a spade a spade.”

She however says if something has to be done at all, then it should be celebrating first president Kwame Nkrumah, insisting that his paraphernalia should have been all over the place by now.

“I don't care what anybody says, he was the greatest African that ever lived. All the kids should know his words and the stuff he did for Africa but nobody seems to care about his contribution.”
