Blame Mahama for killer tariffs - Obuasi East MP

Edward Ennin, Member of Parliament for Obuasi East Edward Ennin, Member of Parliament for Obuasi East

The Member of Parliament for Obuasi East Constituency and ranking member of Select Committee on Mines and Energy, Edward Ennin says Ghanaians should blame President John Dramani Mahama for the ‘killer tariffs’ imposed on them and not ECG.

This follows the President’s plea to Ghanaians to exercise patience about the bills as there would be a reduction in their expenditure. The President made this known when he addressed a section of the populace at Medina during his accounting to the people tour.

According to the MP, the government has failed the people of Ghana by not fulfilling the 25% subsidy levy he promised on electricity bills. Interestingly, the government rather increased the levy on street lights from 0.06% to 5% which has led to the increment of the bills.

He explained that Mahama and his government have taken Ghanaians for granted and that they have had what they wanted from the increment. People’s jobs, businesses and ventures have collapsed.

They burden consumers with what has been described as ‘Killer tariffs’ and then put ECG at the receiving end of the bashing from consumers. The problem is not with any software, prepaid meters or ECG rather the government.
