“Blame Opposition NPP for Cedi Depreciation” – NDC Germany

The office of NDC Germany Communication Team has issued a strong statement over the weekend 5th of May 2012 on a political talk show program hosted by Akwasi Owusu on Sankofa Radio station in Stuttgart, Germany to describe New Patriotic Party presidential running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s hypocritical criticism of the Mills administration at the Ferdinand Ayim Memorial Lectures on Wednesday 2nd of April 2012 as a mere political talks and an exaggeration.

Dr. Bawumia in his speech, charged that, certain loopholes in various sectors of the economy, including the well touted achievement of the single digit inflation, which he said has not translated in the lives of the average Ghanaian.

The communiqué from the NDC-Deutschland signed by Chris Mensah and Karim Abilla further lamented that “The NPP and their cohorts have soon forgotten that, the NDC under the leadership of Prof.Mills came to inherit what is known as "HIPC Economic Legacy" characterized by "Half-Finished and go" infrastructures loaded with heavy debts and deficits. It (NDC) therefore took 3 years with hard struggles by the NDC administration with the same so-called inexperienced team "B"(as nicknamed by NPP) to set this shattered economy back on track”

“Today our beloved Nation - is being recovered from intensive care amidst international recognition and creating conducive environments for foreign businesses by which cause Ghana has been distinguished one of the best economic stabilizing nations in the world. Ghanaians therefore would expect no turning back by the virtue of weak and deceitful propaganda by the opposition NPP”- the statement warned.

The statement further highlighted that, the fall of the cedi should be attributed to the NPP’s flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo, with his “all die be die” slogan. Here I quote "They (NDC) have made up their minds that they are going to intimidate us in 2012 general elections to claim that we Akans are cowards. They argue that if one is able to wound one or two of us, then all the rest of us remaining take to our heels!. During the by-elections at Atiwa we did "something small" that showed a little bit of our character. Our elders who formed this party which is now the biggest political party in Ghana was not people who were hiding under beds! 2012 is going to be a do-and-die affair, after all, all die be die’ incited by Nana Akuffo-Addo

Besides, other NPP faithful of high ranks made other threatening statements. esp. Anthony Karbo, whose is reported to have said that 'Ghana would be like Afghanistan if NPP is not declared winners in the December elections', Peter Mark Manu (former Chairman-NPP) who is said to have called for the use of guns in jungle-like warfare, and Sammy Awuku, who charged on TESCON members to ready themselves for violence"

The worst of all was the “bonfire” of Hon Ken Agyapong:

“Today, I declare war in this country, Gbevlo-Lartey and his people, IGP should know this. Voltarians in the Ashanti Region will not be spared. If anyone touches you, butcher him with a cutlass” NPP“warlord” Agyapong commanded.

It's obvious that, discerning investors will usually give a second thought whenever they hear such statements coming from such men of substance who are desirous to be given the mandate to rule the nation. These foreign Merchants, local Traders, Politicians would instead resort to exchanging their local currencies into hard currencies thus creating artificial shortages which would definitely breed demand and supply phenomenon to adversely affect the economy.
