A sheep was slaughtered at the forecourt of the Nasariyya Mosque at Aboabo Number Two in Kumasi after hours of fervent prayers by Muslims to thank Allah for the lives of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and other petitioners challenging the outcome of the presidential election at the Supreme Court.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, his running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and National Chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey are contesting the election results at the Supreme court.
The activities were geared towards thanking Allah for supporting the petitioners and their lawyers in the ongoing election petition hearing.
Organized by Free Education Now Prayer Group FENPG, a pressure group with links to the NPP, the religious affair, which started around 8am, was attended by people from all walks of life.
Nana Antwi, the NPP parliamentary candidate for Asawase and other influential officials in the region graced the occasion.
Ardent NPP members at Asawase and other parts of Kumasi also attended the event.
Mallam Olu led the prayers which were intermittently laced with recital of the Holy Quran.
After the prayers, a fat sheep was slaughtered at the forecourt of the mosque, and the meat was distributed to the people to thank Allah for His mercy.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, Andy Owusu, National Coordinator, FENPG, said his group decided to organize the event to offer thanks to Allah for supporting the petitioners.
He said Dr. Bawumia, who gave evidence on behalf of the petitioners in the courtroom, performed excellently to the admiration of all people, noting that “Dr. Bawumia’s performance was an act of Allah.”
Andy stated that the petitioners’ legal team had demonstrated beyond every reasonable doubt that it was on top of affairs at the Supreme Court.
He said the NPP’s slogan ‘battle is for the Lord’s was apt.
Andy warned the party’s faithful across the country against complacency and charged them to continually seek the face of Allah.
The religious event was sponsored by Dr. Amoako Tuffuor, a leading member of NPP.
Andy entreated other NPP stalwarts to make sacrifices for the party to emerge victorious.
