Board for re-activated VR Education Fund Board inaugurated

Ho, April 8, GNA - A 13-member Management Board for the re-activated Volta Regional Education Endowment Fund (VREEF) was inaugurated in Ho on Friday with an edict to 93make an impact within months".

Mr Joseph Amenowode, the Volta Regional Minister said the Fund had 16,975.92 Ghana cedis in its coffers, which the Board must begin to expend by the beginning of next academic year.

Mr Amenowode, Board Chairman of the Fund first established in 2005 but hardly operational, urged Board members to 93multiply funds several fold", to affect as many applicants as possible.

He said Volta Regional Development Stakeholders Meeting last year recommended a new Board to take 93urgent steps to re-activate the VREEF to help address gaps in the education sector in the region".

The Fund would offer scholarships, bursaries and grants to brilliant but needy students in public schools especially, award incentives to teachers and ancillary staffs, prop up the learning of science and mathematics as well as help provide tools for schools. Justice Kofi Essel Mensah, a Ho High Court Judge administered the oaths to the members who include Togbe Kwaku Ayim IV, Paramount Chief of Ziavi Traditional Area, Nana Sakyi Amankwata II, Chief of the Kecheibi Traditional Area and a tutor at Nkwanta Senior High School.

The others are Francis Yaw Osei-Sarfo, the Member of Parliament for Krachi-West, Mr Sylvester Tornyeava, the Keta Municipal Chief Executive, Madam Bertha Ansah-Djan, Chief Executive of Micro and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Dr Kodzo Gavua, Lecturer, University of Ghana and Dr Cynthia Sena Kpeglo, Senior Assistant Registrar, University of Cape Coast.

The rest are Mrs Doris Nkani, Deputy Managing Director SIC, Mr Gabriel S. Kploanyi, Volta Regional Director of Education, Nana Francis Amoah Nyarko of the Kadjebi District, Mr Hope Fianu, a lawyer, Audit Service, and the Regional Coordinating Director as Member Secretary.

Mr Amenowode said selection was based on skills, capacity and geographical balance. Madam Ansah-Djan speaking on behalf of members pledged that the Board would quickly reach out to enable 93our sons and daughters get access to quality education." 08 Apr. 11
