Bolgatanga Municipal Directorate of Education abolishes shift system

Bolgatanga, March 20, GNA - Mr Anthony Aziabah, Bolgatanga Municipal Director of Education has directed heads of basic schools within the municipality to stop the shift system with immediate effect. He noted that under the shift system, contact hours between teachers and pupils were limited and could not achieve any effective teaching and learning.

Mr Aziabah gave the directive at a meeting with the Parent-Teacher-Association (PTA) and members of the School Management Committee of Bolgatanga Methodist Primary and Junior Secondary School at Bolgatanga on Monday.

He commended the PTA for its immense support to the school, and urged parents to keep up the self-help spirit to attract assistance from NGOs and other stakeholders.

Mr Aziabah said the Capitation Grant was to enhance school enrolment, payment of sports and cultural levies in addition to undertaking minor repairs and providing teaching and learning material. "The grant should never be used for capital projects because that would be a misapplication," he warned. However, Mr Aziabah said in spite of the grant parents should continue to assist schools in their communities through PTA levies and other sources approved by all members. 20 March 07
