Bolgatanga gets new Paramount Chief

The Judicial Committee of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs has declared Mr Raymond Alafia Abilba, a lawyer as the Paramount Chief of the Bolgatanga Traditional Area after several months of disputes.

The judicial committee which was chaired by the paramount chief of the Chiana Traditional area Pe Detungdini Ayagitam Adiali who is also the vice –President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs in a statement said Nayire has no right to determine who should be the paramount Chief of Bolgatanga.

He said the Apakre Family has also been fined 50 thousand Ghana cedis.

In May this year, two persons were enskinned at two separate ceremonies as bolga Naba. Mr Joseph Apakre, a 36-year old Manager of GHACEM in charge of Northern and Upper East Regions was enskinned as the Paramount Chief of the Bolgatnga Traditional Area by the Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Nayire Naa Bohugu Mahami,

Mr Raymond Alafia Abilba, a lawyer, was also installed as the Paramount Chief of the area, to succeed his father, Naba Martin Adongo Abillba the third, who passed away on September 26, 2013.

The two gates, each claiming to entitlement to the skin name had their leaders installed as Bolga-Naba one in Bolgatanga and the other enkinned at Nayeri and later brought to the regional capital.

The Skin became vacant in September after the demise of the late Martin Abiba III
