Bonatadu presents 1000 Dual Desks to Day Care Centres

Bolgatanga Nov. 26, GNA - The Botataaba Nahira-Taaba Development Union (BONATADU), a local NGO operating in the Talensi/ Nabdam District of the Upper East Region, has presented 1,000 dual desks worth 240 million cedis to 50 day care centres in the district.

BONATADU, which is working in collaboration with Action Aid Ghana, was formed in 1999, and aims at promoting peace, organising educational programmes on child killer diseases, HIV/AIDS, STDS, and counselling chiefs and Assembly members on development issues in the district. Mr. Joseph Zahaya, the Programme Manager of the NGO, announced this at the opening of a three-day workshop organised by the NGO for 10 HIV/AIDS facilitators drawn from the Talensi-Nabdam District and the Bolgatanga Municipality on Wednesday.

He appealed to the Facilitators to meet with their community members regularly to explain the dangers of HIV/AIDS and STDs, as well as educate them on the use of condoms.

The Programme Administrator, Mr Oliver Atibila, announced that the NGO would provide chairs, tables and cupboards to teachers in the various schools in the district who do not have them to enable them to put up their best. It would also enable the pupils to keep their books in the cupboards rather than carry the books to and from school every day.

He said there were plans to organise workshops for parent/teacher association executives to enable them to work to uplift the image of their various schools.

Mr Stephen Putieru, the workshop facilitator took the participants through topics such as sexual relations, behavioural attitudes, communication analysis, communities fairness and psychological needs, and the way to prevent HIV/AIDS.
