The Minister for Zongo Development and Inner Cities, Abubakar Saddique Boniface, has met clerics and leadership of the Zongo communities in the Western Region.

The meeting was primarily to discuss the development of Zongo communities in the Region, management of the Zongo Development Fund established by government, among others.

The meeting, first of its kind, also centered on social and economic activities required to make the beneficiary communities contribute significantly to national development.

During the engagement, the Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Adenta-Madina Constituency, one of the Zongo communities in Accra, stated that development in this country had been disintegrated.

According to him, unplanned activities at the local level has, over the years, contributed to this disintegration which has affected overall national development.

He gave the assurance that the Nana Addo-led administration would strife to reverse the trend, using practical measures to redirect the developmental agenda of the country.

He said the administration believes that development must be integrating, hence the establishment of the Ministry for Zongo Development and Inner Cities.

He, therefore, appealed to Ghanaians living in the inner cities and dwellers in Zongos, in particular, to support the government to deliver on this promise aimed at supporting the Zongo communities and opening up the inner cities of the country.

The Zongo Development Fund, established by the government under the Ministry, he underscored would be applied judiciously to ensure fair distribution of development across the country.

About 24 Zongo communities in the Western Region converged at the Kinstel Hotel in Takoradi to interact with the Minister.

The welfare of the people in the Zongos featured prominently during the long hours conversation.
