The Solid Waste Treatment plant for the Bono Region constructed at Wawasua, in the Sunyani Municipality is ready for commissioning on June 11th, 2024. The construction work for the 400-tome-per-day solid waste processing facility started in 2020. The sod-cut ceremony was performed on 11th September 2020 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for construction work to start.
Andrews Mensah, the Chief Director for Bono Regional Coordinating Council who visited the site with his technical team for monitoring and assessment of the project said he was satisfied with the work done.
The operations manager of the project Madam Priscilla Addo conducted the Chief Director and his technical team around the plant. The operations manager said a test run of waste recycling was successfully done and they are ready to start work after commissioning. She said facilities such as Power House and power distribution unit, compost and sorting workshops, offices and dressing rooms were all ready.
She added that a weighing bridge, washing bay, clinic, laboratory and plastic waste recycling unit as well as grounds work have all been completed for commissioning.
