Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma institutes 'cleanest town' award

The Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District has instituted an award for the 'cleanest town' and the area council leading in revenue collection.

The award, which will also cater for the best-operated sub-district, will be an annual affair aimed at sensitising the people in the district on the need to maintain high standards of environmental cleanliness and enhance revenue generation.

Mr Bright Addai-Mununkum, District Chief Executive, who announced this at the launch of the second Local Government Week celebration at Twedie, said a team had already gone round the district to select winners for the awards slated for April 28.

He said the institution of the award was the initiative of the assembly to help minimise environmental degradation, now the bane of most communities.

"It is also to make the people honour their tax obligations and thus generate more income, which would give impetus to development projects in the area."

The celebration, on the theme: "Consolidating good governance," was aimed at setting the stage for an interaction between governors and the governed, Mr Addai-Mununkum said.

"The ability and willingness of the populace to criticise government policies and programmes constructively and the readiness of government to address public grievances is the essence of democracy," he added.
