Sekondi, Dec. 29, GNA - An unidentified boy has died from gunshot wounds he sustained on December 28 at about 1530 hours at Prato number one in the Mpohor Wassa East district on Monday. The deceased, whose copse has been deposited at the Praso mortuary, is alleged to have attempted to snatch a riffle from a Policeman and during the melee, was shot in the leg, but was pronounced dead on Monday after being rushed to the Praso Hospital in the Central region.
Briefing the media at Sekondi on monday, Mr Mohammed A. Alhassan, Western Regional Police Commander said the incident happened when the Rapid Response Unit of the Ghana Police Service stationed in Daboase had information that some youths in the Prato community had attacked Mr Edward T. Amprofi, District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area. The team soon on arrival at prato discovered that the road had been blocked making it impossible for them to move, they diverted their route but again found out that that road was also blocked.
Mr Alhassan said no sooner had the team encountered the road block, some youths attacked the Police with stones and the Police retaliated with tear gar and pepper spray to disperse them. He said it was during the confrontation that the deceased attempted to snatch a riffle from one of the Policemen but was shot in the leg and later carried away to the Praso hospital for treatment. Mr Alhassan said that the entire process had been peaceful throughout the region except a few arguments at certain polling stations. In another development, five persons (name withheld) who allegedly attempted to run-away with a ballot box at the Nkronua polling station in Bibiani, were rescued from lynching by the Police.
