The fire that killed four persons, including a woman, her two children and lover at Breman Nkontwima, a suburb of Suame in the Ashanti region is being treated as suspicious and criminal by the Ghana National Fire Service.

The Ashanti Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Semekor Fiadjor said the fire was being treated as an arson and the matter has been handed over to police.

The victims were burnt beyond recognition Monday dawn at Breman Nkontwima in the Suame Constituency of Ashanti region after they were allegedly locked in and set on fire by the woman’s former lover.

The charred bodies of Effia, her two children Adjoa 17, and Junior 8, and the yet to be identified lover have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Chief Fire Officer Fiadjor said the intelligence picked at the scene suggested that the incident was not a usual case of fire outbreak, suspecting the fire was set up by somebody with a criminal intent.

“We did our analysis and it could not be an electrical fire and judging from where the fire started from and all those clues we concluded that it is an arson with a criminal intent” he said.

He added;” we are getting some leads and all things being equal the person will be apprehended.”

Meanwhile, Police have taken over investigations into the case that happened Monday dawn.
