The acting National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddy Blay, has described as laughable claims that the party’s vice-presidential nominee, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, bribed two Electoral Commission (EC) officials to be verified in the ongoing voter exhibition exercise.
Dr Bawumia is alleged to have been verified by two EC officers at his home after inducing them with GHC10,000 in the Walewale constituency during the just-ended voter exhibition exercise.
Mr Blay, speaking to journalists in the Upper East Region, accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of desperately working to tarnish the image of the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, and his running mate.
He said the party would treat the issue with the contempt it deserved.
“The party is ignoring it with the contempt it deserves, we are not voting and you say he is giving bribes. Bribe for what? Bribe to register him three times or what? It’s laughable, we will ignore it. … The NDC is desperate so they are sticking to all straw and seeking to throw mud not only at Nana Akufo-Addo, but this time round at Bawumia. I will plead with you, use your medium to let Ghanaians know that it is out of desperation and there is nothing truthful about it,” Mr Blay stated.
