The Tema East NPP Chairman, Nene Ofoe Teye-chu Agbadiagba IV, has responded to public criticisms of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's promise to improve the economy.

Speaking to the issue of Dr. Bawumia being Vice President and yet making future promises, Nene explained that Dr. Bawumia is only extricating himself from the shadows of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

"This is Dr. Bawumia making it clear that he will be his own man and not be under the control of his former boss if he becomes President after the December 7, 2024 elections," Nene wrote in a social media post.

He said the NPP's presidential candidate is making it known that he will execute a personal vision when he becomes president.

"Of course, this is not to say that he is running away from the record of President Akufo-Addo because, with free SHS alone, that record is far more sterling than anything that John Dramani Mahama could ever achieve. However, Dr. Bawumia is telling Ghanaians clearly that he will be his own man," Nene Agbadiagba, who is also a manager at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, added.

Following a media encounter where Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia outlined his visions, he said he will among other things, fix the economy.

He has been attacked by several Ghanaians for making such a statement.

To his statement that he has been studying the economy for the past seven years, his critics have said that this revelation is unacceptable because he was supposed to be in charge in the past seven years.

But Nene Ofoe Teye-chu Agbadiagba IV has accused these critics of being simplistic.

"Anybody with proper political savvy knows that the Vice Presidency is a virtually ceremonial position where the occupant must align himself or herself to the vision of the President. We saw it with former President Rawlings and Kow Akaah, we saw it with former President Kufuor and late Vice President Aliu Mahama, and we have even seen it with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris."

"In fact, in the case of John Dramani Mahama and Atta Mills, we know that it was his differences with Mills that led to friction between John Mahama and people like Koku Anyidoho and others. And so, when Dr. Bawumia promises to fix the economy, what he means is that he will tackle that developmental issue differently than his current boss is doing, and I think this is quite easy to understand unless you are trying to be mischievous, victory for Dr. Bawumia is a foregone conclusion," Nene wrote.
