Winneba, April 19, GNA - The University of Education, Winneba on has honoured 105 brilliant students who performed excellently during last academic year at its Dean's Day celebration.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw said much as "the day is instituted to honour its brilliant students there is the need to also review the performance of the faculty that has been chosen by the academic board to celebrate the day".

Prof Asabere-Ameyaw appealed to those handling the Distance Education Programme to put things in order to encourage more people to register with the programme that has been found convenient for teachers to acquire university education whiles at the same time in the classroom. Delivering a lecture to mark the day, the Director of Institute of Educational Development and Extension, Dr. Kingsley Andoh-Kumi, said there are 9,000 teachers undertaking degree courses in education through distance learning with the university.

He said the biggest challenge to the programme was the production of the required number of learning materials and that sometimes students had to be brought to join the regular sandwich students on campus for 10 weeks to complete their programme.
