Saturday, May 23rd, 2015 is the day! The Council of Brong Ahafo Associations of North America (COBAANA) will meet again in Toronto for the 6th Annual Convention. The venue is the La Victoria Banquet Hall & Convention Center, 69 Milvan Drive, Toronto, M9L 1Z1, from 7:00 PM to 3:00 AM.
COBAANA is the umbrella Organization consisting of the Brong Ahafo Associations in the USA and Canada. It has taken the leading role of bringing all Diasporean Brong Ahafo citizens together to socialize and mobilize resources to support socio-economic development efforts in the Region.
With less than a week to go, feverish efforts are under way and nearly completed as COBAANA welcomes participants from far and near to Toronto, the birthplace of COBAANA. Some distinguished guests and dignitaries from Ghana are already in the U.S.A. en route to Toronto. They include Ghana’s First Lady - Her Excellency Lordina Mahama, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister – Honorable Eric Opoku, the President of the Brong Ahafo House of Chiefs, and others. In attendance also will be the Mayor of Toronto and Ghana’s Ambassador to Canada. The theme for COBAANA-Toronto 2015 is “Changing Lives Through Education.” Proceeds from the Dinner Dance and fundraiser will go to benefit two rural elementary schools that currently lack the appropriate buildings and other necessities. A flat rate of $60 gate fee has been recommended.
Speaking to this reporter via telephone, Mr. Alex Ankomah of Toronto, COBAANA Chairman, reiterated his usual message. Chairman Ankomah said that COBAANA’s efforts are “our way of supporting the government to help our needy families in Ghana.” He graciously invited all and sundry to attend the Convention’s dinner and dance and support a worthy cause.
