Police in the Brong Ahafo Region have launched a manhunt for a gang of robbers who shot and killed a police corporal on the Kukuom-Bibiani road over the weekend.

Corporal Humphrey Lumor was shot during an operation to foil a robbery attempt on commuters along the Kukuom-Bibiani road. He was subsequently taken to the Goaso Government Hospital for treatment but died a few hours later. This is the second such incident in the region in two months.

Public Relations Officer of the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command, ASP Christopher Tawiah, who narrated the incident to Class News, said: “Police had information that something like a robbery was going on, so a patrol team was redirected to the scene of the crime. We met the people in operation, but, incidentally, some were hiding in the bush giving surveillance while others were doing the operation, so they spotted the police vehicle and shot at the car, hitting the left abdomen of a police corporal, who was hospitalised at the Goaso Hospital but, very unfortunately, he died. The body has been transferred to the Police Hospital for autopsy.”

ASP Tawiah noted, however, that the robbers were being pursued and called on the public to assist with information.

“Police are vigorously tracing the perpetrators and I believe with the men on the ground, we will get them, but we equally make a passionate appeal to members of the public to deliver information to the police about these robbers,” he stated.
