Eric Kwatia, a former Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized a recent statement made by Bryan Acheampong, the Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency, during Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's campaign tour in Nsawam, Eastern Region.

Mr. Kwatia expressed his disapproval, describing the statement as regressive and harmful to the image of the NPP.

He emphasized that such negative remarks are not what Ghanaians need, particularly at a time when the focus should be on what the party can offer the masses.

According to him, the comments were unfortunate and not reflective of the positive message the NPP should be promoting.

Speaking on the Ghana Yensom morning show on Accra 100.5 FM, hosted by Otafrigya Kayire Appea-Apreku on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, Mr. Kwatia voiced his concerns about the potential impact of such remarks on the country’s image, especially as the nation approaches the December 7, 2024, general elections.

He stressed that Ghanaians will be making crucial decisions for their future in this election, and negative rhetoric could harm the country’s reputation and deter foreign investment.

Mr. Kwatia welcomed efforts by the National Peace Council to calm tensions ahead of the elections and called for a focus on constructive dialogue.

He urged public officials to refrain from making comments that could incite division or fear. Instead, he encouraged a debate centred on what the NPP can achieve for the nation.

He also highlighted the significant investments made by the NPP in education over the past seven years, describing them as commendable and a reflection of Dr. Bawumia’s vision for the country.

Mr. Kwatia called on voters to carefully consider these achievements as they approach the elections.
