Chief Scribe of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia believes the spirit of terrorism may be tormenting Minister of State in Charge of National Security, Bryan Acheampong.

According to him, the lawmaker for Abetifi in the Eastern Region is implementing some of the things which he learnt while working as a member of the US army some years ago before returning to Ghana to take part in active politics.

He detailed how Talibans are fought by the US Army and their mode of dressing indicating that what transpired at the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency during the by-election is not anything different.

“Bryan Acheampong has worked with the American Army before. He was once sent to Afghanistan to fight with Talibans. There, they fight with masks so that is the experience he has and that is why the president appointed him to be in charge of National Security. There is a spirit of terrorism in him and that is what we saw during the by-elections,” he alleged.

General Mosquito as affectionately called in the political circles, disclosed that his appointment into the office was not surprising because President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was of the view that with Bryan Acheampong at the helm of affairs, he could use violence to get whatever he desired.

“This Bryan Acheampong he has made a Minister of State in charge of National Security, he knew his background before appointing him into that office. He knew he could use violence to get them whatever they want and that is why he appointed him,” he added.

Last week, Deputy National Security Coordinator in Charge of Airports, Hopeson Adorye touted the credentials of Bryan Acheampong a topnotch security capo and catalogued his achievements including the critical role he played for the US army during the Afghan war.

While insisting his intellectual ability in terms of security issues are the best, he lashed out at those who are out there including leading members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) calling for his head.

On Accra-based Asempa Fm, he said “Bryan Acheampong is unmatched when it comes to security matters. He is a US-trained Army Officer and played a lead role in the first war between the US and Afghanistan. He was the one in charge of the lead vehicle in the US Army convoy in the US-Afghan war. So wherever they went to, he was usually the lead person and so he has an in-depth understanding of security matters’’
