Bugri Naabu calls for peace in feuding communities

Mr. Daniel Bugri Naabu, Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the people of Yiyamba and Bierim, two feuding communities in the Gushiegu District, to put a stop to the conflict that had stagnated the area’s socio-economic development.

He advised the people to stop fighting among themselves over land issues, and rather channel their energies towards tilling the land for food production to fight poverty in the area.

Mr. Naabu made the call on Thursday when he paid a working visit to the two communities to prevail on them to know the essence of peace and unity, which are the tenets of development.

He said in times past, communities were more united, and they protected themselves against external aggression, saying, “What is happening today in the north, it would be easier for the enemy to fight and defeat us because we are not united.”

“Let us protect our heritage, our future and our children’s future. We need not fight over land because we will all die and leave our earthly possessions behind," he stressed the need for the people to invest in their children’s education.

Mr. Naabu succeeded in bringing the two chiefs from the two communities together who drank “Kasapreko Alomo” bitters from the same glass as a symbol of making peace prevail in the area.

He later presented alcoholic beverages and an unspecified amount of money to the two communities.
