The Chiefs of Builsa South have called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, to tackle the issue of high unemployment if he wins the 2024 General Elections.

Addressing the flagbearer of the NDC and his team in Fumbisi, the Doninga Chief, Nab Atabnueong Adiila Akanbeanab Akanbong, highlighted the need for employment for their people.

“Unemployment in the district is well above the national average of 14%. The majority of our sons and daughters are unable to find jobs, even after tertiary education, thereby compelling them to migrate to the south of the country and other countries in search of jobs. This state of affairs does not bode well for our communities, nor our country. In that regard, any policy by any government that seeks to address the current unemployment situation among our youth is a step in the right direction.

“Accordingly, we, the chiefs and queen mothers of the Builsa South District, fully endorse your flagship program of a 24-hour economy as a panacea to the growing unemployment situation in our district in particular and Ghana as a whole,” the chief stated.

The Chief of Doninga emphasized the potential of the agriculture sector to drive industrialization and national development.

“We call for a government policy that addresses the issues of accessibility to mechanization services at a reasonable cost, irrigation that facilitates all-year farming, and the high cost of inputs such as fertilizers and pesticides,” he said.

The Chief of Doninga appealed to the former president to complete the many roads that were awarded on contract during his administration but were left uncompleted. “Roads facilitate trade and trade stimulates economic development,” he quoted.

The Chief of Doninga stressed the need for energy access, citing its importance for job creation and livelihood improvement. “Many of our communities still do not have access to electricity, and we hope that your second coming will witness an even more aggressive program of rural electrification,” he said.

The Chief of Doninga advised all politicians to conduct their campaigns with civility and decorum, safeguarding the unity and sanctity of the country. “We call upon the Electoral Commission to discharge its functions in ways that engender trust and bring acceptance by committing to be an honest arbiter,” he added.
