Bulk explosion kills welder

Artisans on the premises of the Ghana Free Zones Board land at Tema community 22 are still in trauma after a waste management vehicle bulk exploded, killing a welder-apprentice.

The deceased whose name was only given as Teye, 25-year-old welder apprentice died as he attempted to weld a locker on a toilet vehicle bulk at Sege Welding Workshop, near Afariwa Farms in Tema, when the explosion with fire carried Teye who was said to be then on top of the bulk up to land on metal distance away at the workshop.

The main opener of the bulk was not left out of the incident as it opened with force hitting a tree before damaging a parked Renault salon car with registration number GT 1318 U, as it rolled on the ground to hit a KIA Pride taxi cab with registration number GR 8920 V.

The victim was said to have been initially rushed to the Tema General Hospital before later consigned to 37 Military Hospital in Accra, where he was pronounced dead after medics tried effortlessly to save him.

When DAILY GUIDE visited the workshop, activities at the shop had come to a standstill as some of the apprentices at the workshop and other artisan shops around were yet to come to terms with the incident.

They expressed shock and anxiety at the manner the incident occurred which has kept them speechless till now.

Eyewitness, Kwami Okai, senior apprentice at the workshop told DAILY GUIDE that the incident happened at about 2:45 pm last Friday when the deceased attempted to weld a locker on the top of a toilet reservoir bulk of the Benz truck.

According to him, some of the exploded pieces of the bulk hit and pierced Teye in his body carrying him a distance away from the scene of the incident.

The workshop owner, Fred Ayiku told DAILY GUIDE that the exploded bulk came as a shock, since the bulk was washed and opened down for some time to release the gaseous substance in it. He explained that “Some of the exploded tank pierced Teye in the face face and some part of his body.”
