Busia family donates books to school in Wenchi

Wenchi (B/A), May 31, GNA - The Busia family at the weekend presented 320 exercise books worth about three million cedis to three schools in Wenchi in Brong Ahafo.

The beneficiary schools were Kwaku Manu Local Primary and J.S.S., Frema Primary and J.S.S. and Koase Secondary Technical School. Nana Appiah Kusi 1, former Paramount Chief of Wenchi, who made the presentation on behalf of the family, said it had been the concern of the family to assist in the development of the three schools. He said the gesture was in appreciation of the honour done the family as the schools were named after certain personalities in the Busia family.

Nana Kusi advised the students to take their education seriously so that they could become responsible citizens and to copy the shinning example of the late Dr Kofi Abrefa Busia, Prime Minister in Ghana's Second Republic.

He expressed concern about the increasing number of HIV/AIDS cases in the Wenchi District and cautioned the youth against pre-marital and illicit sex, which could make them to contract the pandemic. The former Paramount Chief urged teachers in the District to intensify efforts in rendering selfless service to help improve the standard of education in the area.

"Parents should co-operate with teachers and offer the needed support and encouragement to them towards the training and education of their children and to ensure discipline in the schools", he said. Nana Kusi appealed to the government to provide the necessary facilities at Koase Secondary Technical School.

Mr Samuel Opoku, Headmaster of Kwaku Manu School who received the items on behalf of his school commended the family for assisting the institution in diverse ways.

He recalled that last year Mr Obeng Busia, a member of the family donated 20 million cedis for the rehabilitation of a block of three-classroom of the J.S.S., which was destroyed by a severe rainstorm.

The headmaster called on other citizens of Wenchi to emulate the gesture.

Mr Adu Damoah, Headmaster of Frema J.S.S. commended the family for presenting a set of jerseys, a football and a trophy for the promotion of sports in the school. Mr John Nyantakyi, Housemaster of Koase Secondary Technical School, expressed gratitude to the family for their concern for the education of the youth and called on the students to learn hard to attain higher levels in education.

Mr Moses Tawiah, son of Nana Appiah Kusi, who distributed the books among the schools, called on the students to respect their teachers and to learn hard.
