Businessman before court for allegedly threatening ECG technician

Edward Kizito Omile, a businessman who allegedly threatened to kill an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Technician on duty in his house at Sowutuom with a pump action gun was arraigned on Thursday.

He pleaded not guilty to threat of death before an Accra Circuit Court.

Mr Addisah Poku, Counsel for the accused said his client had been robbed on two occasions and therefore sent his houseboys to find out who was at the gate.

He said the accused did not threaten the complainant with death and prayed the court to grant him bail since his offence was bailable.

The court presided over by Ms Sedinam Agbemava admitted the accused to GH?3,000 bail with a surety.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alex Odonkor, prosecuting said the complainant, Isaac Frank Kwofie is an ECG Technician attached to Sowutuom Sub-station while the accused a businessman lives at Sowutuom.

He said in the afternoon of March 8, the complainant was on official duty within Sowutuom to check the electricity meters of customers and whilst on routine operations, he visited the house of the accused.

DSP Odonkor said while Kwofie was at the gate trying to draw attention of the occupants to open the gate, the accused sent one of his houseboys, a witness in the case to find out who was at the gate.

He said the accused followed up to the gate, armed with a pump action gun, the complainant became frightened on seeing the accused holding the gun, and therefore, left the scene to the Police station and lodged a complaint.

DSP Odonkor said the accused was later arrested and the gun retrieved from his room and after investigation charged with the offence.**
