Butcher nabbed for possessing fake notes

Accra, Jan 06, GNA - A butcher resident in Spain who transported fake euros totalling 27,500 under the pretext of selling them out to the public had been nabbed by the police.

A source close to the police said Charles Asare was arrested after a businessman had feigned interest in distributing them. According to the source, Asare arrived in the country on December 18, 2005, and brought 27,500 Euro notes to sell for genuine ones. Four days after Asare's arrival in Ghana, he contacted the complainant, a businessman in Accra, to help him distribute the notes for a commission.

The source said on January 4, Asare handed over the fake notes to the complainant who later reported the matter to the police. On January 5, Asare was picked up by the police at a spot arranged for a meeting between the dealers.

Upon a search the police found 800 fake Euros in his pocket and Asare admitted having been sent by a friend from Spain with the money.
