C. E. A. N. A. Awards Scholarship For Gratitude

The Council of Ewe Associations of North America (CEANA) will go down history as the only institution to award scholarship for good moral and ethical values in recent times.

In the year 2000, the Council established the CEANA Scholarship Program to assist poor and brilliant Junior Secondary School wards to proceed to Senior Secondary Schools in Eweland (The Volta Region of Ghana, Togo and Benin). The scholarship is in its fourth year and twenty six (26) students have been awarded so far. Out of the 26 recipients and of the eight (8) pioneer recipients, only Kafui Amegbe wrote to thank the Council for the assistance, to show them his final Senior Secondary School results and to solicit some assistance to enter university.

At the Executive and General Membership meetings of the Council held in Chicago, Illinois (U. S.A.) from Sept. 3rd to Sept. 5th, 2004, CEANA awarded him about 2.7 million cedis for university education and the Secretariat appointed Professor Amenumey of the University Cape Coast and Dr. Afeti, the Principal of Ho Polytechnic, to mentor and to assist him to attain his educational goals.

Defending the award, the incoming President of CEANA, Dr. Mark Kutame and the Executive Director, Mr. Gordon Sabblah, explained that it is one of the aims and objectives of CEANA to inculcate good moral and ethical values in Ewe youths and that apart from excellent academic performance, Kafui Amegbe's expression of gratitude and demonstration of accountability are rewarded as good examples for others to emulate. They said that CEANA will not maintain an annual scholarship on good moral and ethical values but she will from time to time, without any prior notice, give such awards to encourage Ewe youths to learn and demonstrate good 'home training'.
