Chiefs and people of Anomabu in the Central region over the weekend marked the 2015 edition of Okyir festival in a grand style.
The event, which was sponsored by Groupe Nduom (GN), witnessed activities including Miss Okyir, quiz competition, football gala and canoe racing.
Okyir is an annual festival for the people of Anomabu, and it is celebrated every second week of the month of October.
The festival is to remind the people of Anomabu on the need to for them to stay away from evil which can retard the development of the area.
Speaking on the theme; “Education and Health: A means towards youth’s development," Central Regional Minister, Mr. Acquinas Tawiah, noted the importance of health and education in nation building.
According to him, the two are bedfellows which are fundamental in life.
He commended the chiefs and people of Anomabu for instituting an educational fund which he personally donated GHC2,000.00 to support the needy but brilliant students in the community.
However, Mr. Tawiah advised the people of Anomabu to ensure proper sanitation so as to prevent any future outbreak of disease.
Omanhene of Anomabu Traditional Area, Kantamanto Amonu XI, who was represented by Tufohene, Nana Obiansa, thanked President John Dramani Mahama for redeeming his promise to the late President John Evans Atta Mills to establish a College of Fisheries at Anomabu.
He also thanked government for refurbishing roads in their communities.
For his part, Manager of Ahomka FM and Ocean1 TV, all members of Groupe Nduom, Mr. Samuel Obeng assured the people of Anomabu that they would always support them.
The occasion was graced by some chiefs and dignitaries including Tufohene, Nana Owiansa V, Nana Bafo, Ekurabadzehene, Nana Oboadze Oberimpong IV, Ebusuapanyin Kwesi Tetteh Dadzie, Central Regional Minister, Mr. Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, among others.
