C/R to train 521 election observers

Ekumfi-Ekrawfo (C/R), Nov. 15, GNA - The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CEDEO) made up of 34 organisations and institutions is to train 521 election observers in the Central Region towards Election 2004.

To facilitate the training programme, the region has been divided into five zones.

Observers from the Mfantseman, Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam and Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa districts would be trained at Saltpond while those from the Cape Coast municipality and Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem District would undergo their training in Cape Coast.

Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, Assin South and North district observers would be trained at Assin Foso, while those from Twifu-Heman-Lower Denkyira and Upper Denkyira districts would be at Twifu-Praso. The rest from Gomoa, Agona and Awutu-Effutu-Senya districts would undergo their training at Agona-Swedru.

Mr Issah Mumuni Dimbie, Deputy Central Regional Co-ordinator of the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD), one of the organisations forming the coalition, who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Ekumfi-Ekrawfo, said the training programme would be completed before the end of November.

Mr Dimbie, who is also the Headmaster of the T.I. Ahmadiyya Secondary School at Essarkyir, said CODEO was committed to a free fair and transparent election and appealed to the Electoral Commission, politicians and their supporters to conduct their activities in peaceful and transparent manner.
