CAF Conf: Kototo 1-0 CARA - Highlights

Asante Kotoko beat CARA Club of Congo 1-0 on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports in the first leg tie of the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

In the game the referee awarded five penalty kicks, Kotoko had four while CARA Club got one. The Kumasi giants missed three and scored one, CARA also missed their kick.

Kotoko unsettled the away side in the first six minutes and they were awarded a penalty kick after CARA defender handled the ball in the box – Saddick Adams stepped forward and shot wide.

The Porcupine Warriors never got despaired as they pushed forward for the opener but they were unlucky as Kwame Boahene rattled the cross from 25 yards in the 25th minutes.

CARA Club relied on counter attacks and they came close in scoring the opener but Felix Annan prevented them from hitting the back of the net.

From the recess, Kotoko piled pressure on CARA Club and they were awarded with another penalty in the 57th minute, this time Amos Frinpong stepped forward and his kick was saved.

Five minutes later, the referee awarded another penalty for the Kumasi giants after Kwame Boahene was brought down, however, Baba Mahama selected himself to take the kick and he failed to pick his spot.

CARA Club then pushed forward and they also had a penalty but their shot stopper Massah Chancel kick was saved by Felix Annan.

Kotoko pressed the action and late in the game the Kumasi giants were awarded their fourth penalty and second half substitute Yakubu Mohammed scored the match winner for the Ghanaian side.

The second leg is expected to come off in two weeks time in Congo Brazzaville.
