The Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) and its partners have announced plans to organise a policy conference to present new ways of fighting poverty.

The partners are the French Institute for Development, Paris Dauphine University and the European Union

The two-day meeting slated for May 23 and 24, would be on the theme: “Enhancing Knowledge for Renewed Policies against Poverty,” Ms Mina Okuru, the Communications Officer at the Centre, said in a statement, copied to the Ghana News Agency, on Monday.

It is expected to bring together policymakers and researchers from 17 countries in four continents - Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe.

They would share their specific research findings, experiences, policy recommendations and how it could impact on national policies towards dipping poverty, the statement said.

The conference had also been planned as an interactive platform seeking to assist development partners, government officials and agencies to appreciate evidence-based proposals that could help shape policies and programmes, it said.

The meeting’s outcome is projected to deepen policymakers’ understanding on poverty and introduce them to progressive policies that could facilitate in cutting down deprivation to significant levels.

The Deputy Director and Head of Research and Programmes at CDD-Ghana, Dr Franklin Oduro, was quoted as saying, “The project has come out with recommended policies and actions tailored to each member country’s characteristics, including access to resources, political regime, quality of institutions and governance.”
