CDS inaugurates two projects at MATS

Lieutenant General Peter Augustine Blay, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has inaugurated the Buchanan Conference Hall and Aryiku Officer’s Mess at the Military Academy and Training Schools (MATS) at Teshie in Accra.

This was contained in a statement issued by Lieutenant Commander V. Arhin from the Ghana Armed Forces Public Relations Directorate.

The hall was formerly a Junior Division Block for training officers, also serving as a training block for cadets and was formerly known as the Myohaung Hall.

Troops from Ghana played an instrumental role in annexing Buchanan, a town in Monrovia during the ECOMOG War.

The 100-seater capacity hall was renovated and named the Buchanan Conference Hall in recognition of the gallant role of Ghanaian peace-keepers in Buchanan, Liberia.

The second project which was the Army Combat Training School Officers Mess, was named after the late Major General Aryiku, who was once the Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College.

The CDS cut the tape to officially inaugurate the mess together with Mrs Marian Aryiku, wife of the deceased.

Lieutenant Colonel Asare, General Staff Officer Grade One of MATS, briefing the CDS, requested for assistance to complete some ongoing projects which included repair works at the Demo Lines and the construction of a Conference Hall for MATS.

The CDS said he would endeavour to ensure that challenges facing MATS were addressed.

Rear Admiral M.M. Tahiru, MATS Commandant, expressed gratitude to the CDS for his support over the years.

He appealed to the CDS to continue to support MATS towards the attainment of its goals to provide quality training for personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces.**
