CENAB Inauguration Shakes Philadelphia

All roads in America ended at Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love, on Saturday, September 20, 2014 for the historic launching of the Coalition to Elect Nana Addo and Bawumia (CENAB), as Cenabians converged at the Radisson Hotel from all corners of the USA with supporters, admirers, sympathizers and concerned citizens of Ghana to be part of history. The launching was a beautiful blend of art, culture and technology. The hall was gorgeously decorated with NPP colors, with a background of exquisitely designed CENAB logos that forcefully brought the presence of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to the fore.

Many dignitaries from Ghana graced the occasion: Dr. Kwame Amoako Tuffour, NPP founding member and one of the Party’s intellectual powerhouses; Hon. Adwoa Safo (NPP MP for Dome-Kwabenya); Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi (Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman) and Mr. Gabby Otchere Darko (Founder, Danquah Institute). World-renowned Ghanaian drummer Okyerema Asante, and the young activist-poet Nana Afriyie, were on hand to deliver memorable performances. Nana Addo and Dr. Bawumia joined in from Ghana through video conferencing to deliver powerful goodwill messages to CENAB.

However, the event could not have been complete without the presence of the indefatigable Chairman of NPP-USA, the sagacious political operative, Nana Kwaku Agyei Yeboah.

In his opening address, the National Coordinator of CENAB, Dr. Akwasi Achampong, made it clear that CENAB is here to stay. He reiterated that CENAB believes the Nana Addo and Bawumia team will move Ghana forward through transformational leadership, development in freedom, fiscal and economic discipline, education with a purpose, audacity of vision, boldness of thought, and unification of Ghana as one nation, one people with a common destiny. Invariably the speakers did not disappoint when they indicated why the winning team of Nana Addo and Dr. Bawumia should be leading the New Patriotic Party to the Jubilee House and embark on a renewed hope for the next generation.

Dr. Amoako Tuffour shared with the audience the character of the man Ghanaians are clamoring for. He disclosed that Nana Addo is humble man who passionately cares for the ordinary Ghanaian. Nana Addo has always demonstrated his passion for the welfare of the ordinary Ghanaian through his political activism by leading demonstrations to oppose oppressive governments in Ghana. Nana Addo took the challenge to go to court to defend the constitutional rights of individuals and control the abusive limited powers of the executive arm in Tuffour v Atty Gen.

Gabby succinctly defined the strength of the current dynamics in the Party and debunked the myth of disunity in the Party. He said, in fact, in the history of the NPP, we have not heard of all 10 regional chairmen coming together to endorse a candidate they believe can deliver victory. The voice of the people is overwhelmingly in support of Nana Akufo-Addo’s candidature. The leadership and the executives of NPP have listened and responded for Nana Addo to become the next flagbearer. Nana Addo has accepted and promises with God’s help and the hard work of Dr. Bawumia and the Ghanaian voters, he will deliver a transformational leadership which would reflect on our economy for all to benefit.

Hon. Adwoa Safo was gracious to share with the audience her championing role in empowering Ghanaian women to be active in politics as they traverse the fiscal and economic terrain of Ghana. The opposition minority in parliament, she said, is a friend of the Ghanaian taxpayer, and has been instrumental in pinpointing the various rot in the executive branch discovered through parliamentary committees and due diligence of the minority. She is convinced the toxic culture of loot and share of the NDC administration has corrupted parliamentary members from the NDC party to tow party lines instead of forging bipartisan policies to the benefit of all Ghanaians. She calls on all Ghanaians far and near, home or abroad, NPP or NDC to come together to redeem Ghana from a band of corrupt and self-centered NDC leaders.

Chairman Wontumi brought the audience to their feet when he directed their attention to the misguided policies of this current NDC government and how their bad policies have destroyed a hitherto solid and growing economy left behind by former President John Agyekum Kufour. The current witch hunting administration has removed all necessary governmental subsidies that kept the Ghanaian private sector vibrant and competitive with taxes and yet, with all the oil revenue, could not sustain simple programs like the school feeding and health insurance scheme. Instead of this government uniting Ghana, it has embarked on “we against them” propaganda, engineering tribal sentiments which have never been experienced in Ghana before. NDC has never been for Ghanaians. He jokingly said NDC is a leftist party, however anytime you leave governance to them, nothing seems to go right. Chairman Wontumi emphatically maintained that all electoral fraud by the NDC rigging machinery will not happen under his watch in his region. He is optimistic Ghana is ready for an effective, efficient and visionary leader who can build a transformational team to deliver Ghana from its economic chaos.

All the speakers agreed with the Cenabians that the clear choice of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for president has been consistent and unwavering since 2000. To quote Dr. Lloyd Amoah (Ashesi University) on why we all agree with our speakers, “Nana Addo should have been president of this Republic long ago. To my mind, of the current generation of politicians, he is the one with the audacity of vision, sheer boldness of thought, demonstrated incorruptibility, the warrior who though a scion faced the bullets of Jerry Rawlings, the one who has thought about, felt and engaged long and hard about Ghana's transformational problems, the one with consistent pan- African vision, the one who can take on the West and Asia and outmaneuver them; in short the man with the master plan! If we fail, it will be the loss of this generation and many yet unborn! I want it to be said that l stood on the side of history when it offered Ghana one last chance this century. China did not miss its chance with Deng Xiaoping. The results are clear.”

Ghana should not miss its chance with the winning team, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Join with all of us, as we move forward to social and economic prosperity.

CENAB - Moving Ghana Forward! Long live the NPP!!
