CEO of the National Youth Authority, Mr. Emmanuel Sin-nyet Asigri has called on the youth of Ghana to endeavor at all times to support the government of President Akufo-Addo to consolidate the prevailing peaceful environment that the nation currently enjoys.

In a statement to highlight the gains made in the area of peace building as the nation prepares to celebrate 62 years of independence from colonial rule, Mr. Asigri recalled the theme for the celebrations “Celebrating Peace and Unity” and expressed his appreciation to His Excellency the President, the Committee of Eminent Chiefs and all well-meaning individuals and institutions who in diverse ways contributed to the settlement of the age long dispute in Dagbon.

“I share in the joy and recognition of the contributions of the youth then, in advancing the pursuit for independence and for how hard today’s youth have contributed to preserve our nation’s peace thus far. The need for peace as a critical agent for sustainable development cannot be overemphasized hence the need to commend all stakeholders, our youth particularly, for yearning, promoting and guarding the current peaceful dispensation thus making way for government to continue to roll out programmes geared at national cohesion and development” Mr. Asigri stated.

He however bemoaned certain instances of violence recorded in recent times citing specifically the Ayawaso-West-Wuogon Constituency by-election and the shooting incident at the offices of the National Democratic Congress at Kumasi and asked the youth to eschew violence in all its forms and rather pursue peaceful initiatives within their localities to attract investments and development.

Whilst wishing the youth and entire nation a happy celebration, Mr. Asigri went on to commend the planning committee for this year’s anniversary for settling on the theme and for choosing Tamale as the host city for the celebration “as that would go a long way at beefing economic activities there whilst affording the indigenes the opportunity to exhibit their rich cultural heritage” he concluded.
