CEPS to acquire speedboats to patrol Volta Lake

Hohoe, Feb 12, GNA - Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) will acquire a speedboat to patrol he Volta Lake to combat the high incidence of smuggling and areas to be patrolled are Kpando-Tokor, Gemeni and Tapa Abotoase.

Mr Fredua Agyeman-Boakye, the Ho Sector Commander of CEPS, said this at a get-together for stations forming the northern half of the Ho Collection at Hohoe on Saturday.

The stations are Tinjase, Wli-Agorviefe, Menusu and Leklebi-Dafor. He said evidence had shown that colossal revenues were lost to the state from the activities of smugglers on the lake.

Mr Agyeman-Boakye commended the four stations for their vigilance that translated into several interceptions including large quantities of African prints at Kodi-Benum and Poase Cement in the Kadjebi District. Mr Edmund Quaye, Chief Collector at the Menusu Station, appealed for the supply of solar communication gadgets to facilitate effective policing of the eastern frontier.

The Ho Collection would collect a total of 104.7 billion cedis out of the national target of 16.6 trillion cedis, this year.
