The Conference of Heads of Private Second-Cycle Schools (CHOPSS) has expressed concern over the delay in releasing the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates.

In a statement issued on December 22, 2024, CHOPSS noted that WAEC has attributed the problem to the Ministry of Education’s failure to disburse an outstanding payment of GH₵118,000,000.00, which is urgently needed to resolve the situation.

CHOPSS highlighted the unjust impact of this delay on private school students.

They explained that despite having paid their WASSCE registration fees in full, these students have been denied access to their results.

“If not for the breakdown of WAEC scanners, private schools would have requested the Council to release their results independently since we do not owe WAEC. This delay is deeply unfair to private schools, parents, and students, especially given that our students are not at fault,” the statement read.

CHOPSS also expressed frustration over the government’s continued neglect of private schools, emphasizing that for the past eight years, private senior high schools have been excluded from the Free SHS policy.

According to them, this exclusion has left private school classrooms largely empty as parents are forced to choose public schools due to economic considerations.

“We urge the government to immediately disburse any outstanding funds owed to WAEC so the results can be released without further delay. Private Senior High Schools have suffered enough, and we will not hesitate to take further action in collaboration with parents and students if a positive response is not forthcoming in the coming days.”
