A total of fifty (50) individuals will be deployed to observe the referendum on the creation of six new regions scheduled for December 27, 2018, Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has said.

The deployment of the fifty observers is in line with the coalition’s objective of ensuring a transparent electoral process as well as rendering accountability to individuals.

A press statement by CODEO indicates that the observers will keep track of the electoral process from ‘the setting-up and opening of polls, verification and voting processes as well as the collation of results’. The observers will also report the ‘conduct of election officials, security personnel and voters.’

CODEO charged the Electoral Commission to put in place all measures to ensure that the referendum is smoothly run. The coalition also tasked security agencies to ensure that order and sanity is maintained before, during and after the referendum.

Thursday, December 27, 2018 has been set aside for the referendum on the creation of six extra regions, as proposed by government. The new regions would emerge from the Volta, Western, Northern and Brong Ahafo regions.
