CODEO yet to report on elections incidence

After nearly four hours of voting, CODEO – a civil society election observers are yet to release its first report on incidence in the ongoing elections.

CODEO, a civil society group constituted by over 40 civil society groups has detailed almost 4,000 election observers across the length and breadth of the country to monitor the 2012 polls.

The 4,000 observers are expected to sample information on the field relating to the conduct of the election and report to CODEO headquarters in the form of texts; where the data will be verified and processed.

Some areas recorded late starts due to the inability of the Electoral Commission to deliver election materials on time.

Earlier, there were reports of long queues at polling stations some of which started forming on Thursday evening.

Though over 40,000 security personnel were deployed to various polling stations across the country to ensure smooth organization of the election, there are still reports of some polling stations without security personnel.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Cephas Arthur, said on Thursday that the security services are more prepared for this year’s elections than ever before.

He also assured of contingency security measures to quash any unwanted incident at polling stations identified as flashpoints.
