COP Timbilla under service enquiry – Police PRO

Interdicted Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Patrick Timbilla is under Service Enquiry following his involvement in arguably the biggest recruitment scam to have rocked Ghana's Police Service.

This was revealed by the Public Relations Officer of the Police Service DSP Cephas Arthur ;who was speaking on Adom FM's morning news analysis program, Dwaso Nsem.

According to him, after the Special Task Force had done its internal investigations, it referred the matter to the Police Council for direction.

The council, he further disclosed; tasked the Police Administration to take three actions, out of which two have been executed.

The directive to interdict officers found complicit and to refer the criminal aspects of the scam to the Attorney General for advice have both been complied with. The third directive is an ongoing one, which is the 'Service Enquiry' processes.

He noted that the Service Enquiry was an internal disciplinary measure where the interdicted officers including DCOP Timbilla appeared before a panel for hearing relating to the case.

DSP Cephas Arthur refuted media reportage by the state-owned Daily Graphic that some 500 people had fallen prey to another Police recruitment scam. "There were only 15 people involved as far as we are concerned," he clarified.

In all, 14 people including three serving officers of the Police Service are being held in respect of a botched nationwide recruitment drive into the Ghana Police Service in February 2015.
